Confidentiality & Privacy:
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
Exceptions include:
- I am required by law to report the suspected abuse or neglect of a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person to the appropriate protective service.
- If I believe a client is at serious risk of serious harm to themselves or others, I must treat this as an emergency, access appropriate services, and do all that I can to protect the client and others from harm.
- If I receive a valid court order to release information, I must obey that court order.
