First Appointment--What to Expect

The first appointment is the beginning of a process. In the first session we will:
Review the consents and policies that will guide the process of therapy.
Begin the Initial Clinical Assessment. This usually takes one to three sessions. The goal is for me to get a basic understanding of who you are and where you're coming from. I will ask you questions about different areas of your life, such as your health, work or school, family life and background. Also, it will be important for me to know what symptoms you may be experiencing, how problems may be affecting you, your mood, your functioning in life, your relationships with others. Really, the most important questions I will have for you in the first session are: Why are you here? and What would you like to accomplish in therapy?
